The School of Biotechnology (ESB) forms part of the Campus Asprela (Hospital de S. João, Porto) and the Portuguese Catholic University was founded in 1984, there are already more than 25 years. Its mission is to intervene, so striking in the scientific, social and economic development initiatives through integrated teaching, research and development, extension, and entrepreneurship in biotechnology, asserting itself as a forum for international excellence with a strong national consciousness that reveals the spirit and promotes academic humanist perspective.
In ESB develop multiple hard university activities, with an emphasis in Higher Education (Undergraduate, Masters, Doctoral and Post-graduate), the Research and Development (projects and applied fundamental character), and extension to secondary and tertiary sectors (providing services and training). The Director is Professor of ESB. Dr. Emidio Gomes.
